Development strategies for tourism in Bulgaria
The National Strategy for Sustainable Development of Tourism in Bulgaria 2009-2013 offers a set of long-term strategies in terms of improving the overall image of the country as a tourist destination, investment, planning, domestic tourism, improved infrastructure, research, services in tourism, training of qualified staff in tourism, maintenance and modification of existing tourist areas and ensuring a diversified tourism product. The main objective of the cultural tourism development plan in the country is to boost competitiveness and attractiveness of Bulgaria and also creating a sustainable link between culture and tourism.
The country aims at becoming a preferred all-seasons destination for both local and international tourists. For this to be achieved, it has to maintain and improve the unique cultural and natural heritage, maintain a positive international image and have quality and competitive products which in turn gives room for business and economic growth. Therefore, the tourism sector requires healthy partnership at local, regional and national levels with all concerned parties; the authorities, local communities, NGOs and foreign partners. In the attempt to generate a positive impact and enhance tourism activities, the country invests in other interrelated sectors such as culture, infrastructure, jobs and new skills which stimulate competitiveness of the tourism industry.
Specific objectives of development strategies for tourism in Bulgaria
Bulgaria intention is to diversify tourism products, ensure customers protection and endorsement of tourism related services. This can be achieved by organizing events, sporting, arts and other recreational events. Adopting energy-saving technologies, improving quality of water and air and supporting investments are some of the strategies aimed at improving tourism. Another objective is to strengthen tourism role in improving development and professional skills of the labor market within the tourism industry. It can be attained through improved training and education that comply with the demands of labor market thus upholding an economy that is knowledge-based. Finally, the most important aim for Bulgaria is to conserve and give value to cultural and natural heritage by improving the management of protected areas, keeping an eye on the effect of tourism activities and maintaining the elevated entertaining capacity of the environment and sceneries.
