Zheravna mayor Luchezar Germanov answered radio Focus-Sliven’s questions.
Q. Has the tourism season started in Zheravna and did the financial crisis affect it in any way?
A. Zheravna’s tourism season continues year-round. The financial crisis has led to a decrease in the number of visitors.
Q. What Zheravna landmarks are most attractive for tourists?
A. Tourists like the architecture and the atmosphere of the preserve. We are doing our best to preserve Zheravna’s authentic style. New buildings are in no way different from the traditional village houses. Tourists can take mountain walks or try horseback riding. New ideas for development of tourism in the region are to be discussed. Zheravna attracts mainly Bulgarian tourists, as well as some of the foreign tourists that are having a vacation in the coastal resorts. We will do our best to make tourists stay longer in Zheravna. Weekend trips are insufficient to produce profit for investors. A sports center will be constructed right outside the preserve.
Q. Mayors of settlements in the region are complaining of problems with water provision. What is the situation in Zheravna?
A. Zheravna has no water provision problems. It relies on its own resources. The winter was favorable and the melting snow will provide sufficient amounts of water. Zheravna also gets water from three springs. Old pipes are being changed making use of European funds. A purifying station will be constructed soon.
Q. Do you experience any refuse collection problems?
A. Zheravna’s streets are too narrow and trucks cannot be used for the collection of refuse. All waste is taken to the outskirts of the village, where it is collected and taken to the Kotel dump. Zheravna is one of the places that are actively involved in tourism development and we cannot afford neglecting this issue.
