Vitosha nature park will ask the Environment and Water Affairs Ministry to revoke the decision of Sofia Regional Environment and Waters Inspectorate concerning the expansion of Vitosha’s ski zone, Bulgaria News Agency reported.
The decision taken made in 2008 and was based on unofficial documents. Plans involve the construction of building and lifts, which however violate the park management plan.
Vitosha Ski Ltd, the company behind the project, carried out public consultations on the ecological evaluation of the project. Ecological organizations decided to appeal the decision of the Sofia inspectorate in the Supreme Administrative Court.
The new ski zone plan envisions a seven-times increase of the current ski tracks. Large forests will have to be taken down for that aim.
