On July 7, the town of Velingrad will be named spa capital of the Balkans, news.bg reported.
Velingrad makes use of the healing power of 80 thermal springs and 15 types of water. The town has rich cultural and historic heritage and is situated in a beautiful mountainous region.
Over 500 000 tourists visit the spa resort each year.
To increase the number of visitors, Velingrad plans the construction of a charter flight airport.
By the end of the year, Velingrad will have two new five-star and four new four-star hotels, Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association said.
