The so called Red Church in the town of Peroushtitsa is falling apart due to the lack of funding for its renovation, BGNES news agency reported.
The church dates back to the fourth century BC. It has been named a monument of culture but remains little known.
Red bricks have been used in the construction, giving the sanctuary its name. Only two churches in Bulgaria feature this construction technology.
Peroushtitsa museum representatives have sent numerous letters to Culture Ministry, yet without result. The main arch of the church is crumbling and wooden construction has been set up to support it. The wood is decaying and might lead to the destruction of the central part any time soon.
