UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and Bulgarian Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov signed an agreement on the establishment of a regional center for preservation of intangible cultural heritage.
The center will be responsible for activities in Southeastern Europe. It will be located in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia.
Bokova said that Bulgaria will turn into a regional leader that can benefit from its experience with the center.
Apart from signing the agreement, Rashidov discussed the inclusion of Plovdiv's Dzhoumaia mosque and St. Stephan church in Istanbul in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
