The UNESCO General Conference approved the selection of Irina Bokova as its Director General.
Bokova was elected as Director General of the Executive Committee on September 22 after five voting rounds. She took the office after receiving the approval of the General Conference, including representatives of 193 countries.
Bokova’s term in office will start officially on October 23, when the mandate of Koichiro Matsuura will end.
