Turkey have taken the decision to build an airport on an artificial island in Back Sea, BTA reported.
The new airport will be constructed 19 km away of the Black Sea coastal city of Ordu and 25 km away from Giresun, the Turkish Minister of Transport and Communications said.
According to the already signed building contract, almost 20 million tones sand and nine million tones stone material will be emptied in the sea. The length of the airport runway will be 3 km and the construction will cost 150 million dollars.
Currently there is just one airport in Eastern Turkey – Trabzon. The Black Sea Coast is the most populated region in Turkey and there is a high travel potential. It is planned that the airport will be ready in 2014. It is expected that annually about 2,5 million people will use it to travel.
