Tourism will play a major role in the attempts of Bulgaria’s economy to recover from the financial crisis, the Institute for Market Economy (IME) reported. Tourism’s good results have already affected the state of the local economy.
After the long-term slowdown, the number of foreign tourists visiting Bulgaria experienced a 14.3 percent increase in January 2010 in comparison to figures for the same month in 2009.
According to IME, the January 2010 growth should not be underestimated. The number of Greek visitors increased 13 percent. Visits from countries like Serbia, Russia and Macedonia increased by 33.8, 32 and 28.4 percent respectively.
In February 2010, the business climate managed to maintain the January levels, National Statistical Institute (NSI) reported.
Reports showed that industrial production has decreased in the end of 2009 but data for February 2010 reveals that industrial growth can soon be expected. Expectations are for the process to start in the second or third quarter of 2010.
