Overconstruction in Bulgaria’s ski resorts comes under investigation
from 22.05.2009 09:10       Author - Tourist Media
Bulgaria already has the unwanted reputation of a destination that has allowed uncontrolled construction in its ski resorts, Ski Rebel Magazine reported.

Now the country is a member of the European Union. The European Commission has received numerous complaints from eco organizations concerning illegally constructed complexes.

Signs are appearing that the situation might change in the near future. The main investor in Super Borovets mega resort project has announced plans to apply for EMAS certificate. The certificate guarantees that all work, products and services in the resort will follow European environmental requirements.

No Bulgarian company has yet received the certificate. Requirements are way too strict and once completed, resort complexes will have to make use of renewable energy resources only.

Nature activities said that they do not believe the good intentions of entrepreneurs. Most eco organizations said that once the certificate is received, investors will go back to their old ways
