An alley, paved in limestone blocks and dating back to the Greek-Roman period was discovered near the Bulgarian village of Resen, Darik Radio reported. The finding is situated close to the ancient Roman settlement of Nicopolis ad Istrum.
Archaeologists believe that the alley leads to a nymph sanctuary.
The location of the new sanctuary is close to the road leading to the western Nicopolis ad Istrum gate.
Findings in Nicopolis ad Istrum prove that the nymph cult was very widespread in the region. It was especially popular in Thracian territories.
