The European Parliament passed a new set of regulations that protect the rights of cruise passengers, tourism-review.com reported.
The rules will regulate the provision of compensation for delays or cancellations of ships and ferries.
The regulations will become effective in 2012.
New regulations include no items related to travel delays caused by climatic conditions. In such instances, passengers must be provided with snacks.
Tour operators will be obliged to pay up to 80 euro, if a delay forces passengers to look for accommodation.
According to the new EU directives, passengers with disabilities should be granted easy access to the vessel.
