Bulgaria’s coastal town of Nessebar will remain a part of the UNESCO World Heritage List, will not be taken out of the UNESCO World Heritage List, UNESCO permanent delegate of Japan to UNESCO Tadamichi Yamamoto said.
Reports appeared in July claiming that construction taking place in the old part of Nessebar might turn into a reason for the exclusion of the site from the list.
Bulgarian UNESCO general manager candidate Irina Bokova visited Nessebar together with Yamamoto.
Nessebar mayor Nikolai Dimitrov suggested the creation of a UNESCO fund that will provide financial resources for renovation activities and the preservation of monuments of culture that are threatened by extinction.
