The company that has purchased land in the old part of Nessebar in order to carry out a project has refused to accept another plot in the new part of town.
The construction of a theme park and a dolphinarium is to take place there. The company has asked Nessebar municipality to allow the start of construction works.
Nothing can be done to prevent construction works in the historic part of the coastal town. This means that Nessebar can be taken out of the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In addition, Nessebar municipality might be forced to pay compensation worth two million leva.
The situation aggravated after locals said that they will oppose construction in the old part of town. The plot was provided by the previous term of the municipal administration.
Attempts of current mayor Nikolai Dimitrov to annul the land purchase came to a stop after he failed obtaining approval from the Supreme Administrative Court.
