Nearly 15 000 cruise ship tourists will stay for a brief period in Bulgaria’s Varna in 2009. Most of the ships will only pass through the country, head of the Marine Station Valeri Kitanov said as quoted by Focus news agency.
The ships will stay in Varna only several hours but even this brief period is expected to affect tourism in the region positively.
A total of 24 ships will use the Varna port this year. The first cruise ship will arrive in Bulgaria on April 7.
Cruise tourists come mainly from the US, Canada and the UK. For the first time Varna will welcome Norwegian Jade, a cruise ship of length 300 meters and capacity to accommodate 2000 passengers.
