Representatives of political parties said that the creation of a tourism government in Bulgaria is needed. They took part in a National Tourism Board discussion.

Representatives from National Movement for Stability and Progress (NMSP), Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria (DSB), Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria (DSB), VMRO and Order, Lawfulness and Justice (OLJ) took part in the talks. Members of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), Union of Democratic Forces (UDF), Ataka and the State Agency for Tourism (SAT) failed attending.

OLJ leader Iane Ianev said that he fully supports the creation of a ministry since the SAT cannot even regulate processes within the sphere. The party demands decriminalization of the tourism sector.

CEDB is still uncertain about the creation of a tourism ministry, party expert Vladimir Goranov said. One minister cannot solve all the problems of the sector. Even spheres that are represented by a ministry experience hardships.

Bulgaria lacks overall tourism development strategy, VMRO leader Krasimir Karakachanov said. The country is known as an alcohol and even sex tourism destination and has not affirmed its positions as a tourism destination worldwide. The creation of a ministry is needed, based on professional experience and not on party quotas.

NMSP was the first party to attempt the creation of a tourism ministry, party representative Mariana Kostadinova said.

Asen Agov from DSB said that he opposes the creation of expert ministry but such institution is needed in the sphere of tourism to manage and distribute funding.

Head of the Bulgarian Association of Tourism Agencies (BATA) Donka Sokolova said that she was surprised by the lack of decisive support for the creation of a tourism government on behalf of party representatives.
