In the end of 2008 archaeologists discovered the remains of a medieval fortress in Kraimorie district.
Bourgas mayor Dimitur Nikolov and regional museum director Tsonia Drazheva said that the fortress is probably the one named Bourgos (Poros).
The discovery is important since it helps dating precisely when Bourgas appeared. Until present, archaeologists believed that Bourgas was formed several centuries later than the actual date. In this manner, the coastal city brags the same archaeological importance as Nessebar and Sozopol.
Bourgas municipality provided funds for the research. Culture Ministry and European funds are expected to provide financial resources for further work on the project.
Batkov said that a tourism complex in Kraimorie could be set up.
