A project envisions the construction of a three km channel in the town of Kurdzhali, econ.bg reported.

Regional Development and Public Works Ministry will invest nearly 77 million leva in the unique for Bulgaria project. All construction works can be finalized in three months after work starts.

Locks will bar Arda River and will create and artificial lake with depth of nearly four m.

The facility will protect the town of Kurdzhali against floods but will also aid tourism development. Boats and ships will be able to move in the lake.
