A koukeri festival took place in the Bulgarian town of Blagoevgrad on January 10.
Ten groups from Blagoevgrad and two from Bulgaria's Karlovo and Petrich participated in the festival. Koukeri wear scary masks in an attempt to chase away evil power. These masked games are traditional and typical for various Bulgarian regions.
