Increasing number of tourists explore Bulgaria's Zhaba Mogila tomb
from 14.07.2009 09:30       Author - Tourist Media
An average of 150 tourists visits the Thracian tomb at Zhaba Mogila each month, radio Focus-Pazardzhik reported.

In June, the number of visitors exceeded 200, Strelcha history museum director Totka Kiuchoukova said.

Some visitors are damaging the tomb by taking pieces of stone. As a result, the tomb had to be locked. Museum staff open it only when visitors come to see it.

If renovated, the tomb will turn into an even more attractive tourism site. During excavations, archaeologists discovered a Thracian chariot, silver jewelry and remains of the three horses that were buried alongside the Thracian noble.

Strelcha municipality lacks the funds needed for the renovation of the tomb.
