Haskovo can be the central point of at least two major tourism destinations, archaeologist Nikolai Ovcharov said as quoted by Darik Radio.
Apart from the Alexandrovo tomb, these destinations include landmarks like the Ouzoundzhovo church, the Virgin Mary statue in Haskovo, Perperikon, Tatoul and the monasteries near Kurdzhali.
The Alexandrovo tomb could find a place among the world cultural heritage sites of UNESCO, Ovcharov said. Wall paintings in the tomb are among the best preserved examples of Thracian art.
To turn into a popular tourism destination, these sites need state aid for the protection of cultural and historic landmarks, Ovcharov said.
