In an article devoted to exotic vacation opportunities, the Guardian presents a shepherd-guided tour in Bulgaria’s Stara Planina Mountain region.
The article presents some of Europe’s least know tourism sites. One of the suggestions involves getting started with a trip involving ancient shepherd routes.
From October 2 to 9 2010, tourists can join the seven-day winter time migration of nearly 400 sheep. Shepherds will take them from the mountain pastures to the winter shelter located in the vicinities of Kotel.
Tourists, who participate in the trip, will walk together with Bulgarian shepherds and volunteers from Fund for Wild Fauna and Flora. During the nights, they will sleep in tents or guest houses. Horses and mules will carry the luggage. A festival will mark the end of the trip.
Other tourism destinations that the Guardian’s article presents include Ukraine, Belarus and Slovenia.
