The first certificates for quality and responsible accommodation attitude will be handed in Sofia on December 2. They will be provided to 23 guest houses and hotels that participated in the competition.
Bulgarian Association for Alternative Tourism (BAAT) and the State Agency for Tourism (SAT) organized the event.
Through the nominations, BAAT certifies that the specific place is trying to meet Green House policies and will be eligible for a certificate upon the finalization of the process.
BAAT certificates show that hotel owners have distinguished themselves in one of several categories among which efficient resource utilization, bioagriculture, contribution to the local community or environment protection.
Apart from certificates, participants will receive special awards. One of all will be named Green House 2008. Awards will be given in categories like hospitality, authentic architecture, culinary art, preservation of traditions and sustainable development projects.
Evaluation was based on the criteria of European Center for Eco Agro Tourism (ECEAT). These target hotels and guest houses outside cities. A special focus has been placed on the efficient utilization of resources, waste management, contribution to the local economy, responsible attitude towards nature and comfortable accommodation.
