German tourists are planning 55.4 million vacations of more than five days for the period from November 2009 to October 2010, GfK Travel Scope research reported.
The number represents a 3.7 percent decrease in comparison to the vacations planned in 2009.
Winter season 2009/2010 has already seen a vacation decrease of 3.1 percent. Summer vacations are expected to decrease 4.1 percent.
Germans are uncertain that the financial situation will improve soon. They also have doubts about their individual vacation status. This uncertainty has affected early bookings.
Research shows that some social groups remain unaffected. Elderly Germans plan a travel increase. The expected increase in 2010 will reach 10 percent.
