The financial crisis has hit hard the Spanish tourism sector, expert.bg reported.
Over the first quarter of 2009, the number of foreign tourists visiting the country decreased by 16.3 percent.
British tourists decreased by 23.3 percent, representing the biggest drop. Yet, British remain the biggest foreign group visiting Spain. The decrease in the number of German and French tourists has reached respectively 15.7 and 9.8 percent.
Cataluña and Andalusia register drop in visits of over 15 percent. The decrease is lowest in Madrid, reaching only 4.4 percent.
