Few archaeological discoveries in Bulgaria's Smolyan this year
from 13.11.2008 14:06       Author - Tourist Media
Only two sites were researched in the region of Smolyan this year, regional history museum representative Nikolai Boiadzhiev told radio Focus. One of the sites is the Momchil fortress.

The second site is a necropolis near the Dospat region village of Liubcha. During their work, archaeologists discovered pieces of amber,

Perelink peak was to be researched this year, as well. A team from the Plovdiv archaeology museum was supposed to work there but no announcements have been made concerning discoveries.

Boiadzhiev said that the limited number of discoveries is connected to the fact that PHARE funding for research in the Rhodope region is no longer available. At the same time, trasure hunters have once again proven to be very active. Several mounds near the villages of Orehovo and Tourian have been worked on.
