A Chepelare initiative committee won European funding for rural region development, radio Focus Smolyan reported.

The project will affect the municipalities of Banite, Luki and Chepelare.

The European agriculture fund provides financial resources for such projects executed from 2007 and 2013. Overall funding for the Chepelare project totals 186 251 leva.

Development of a tourism strategy for the three municipalities is one of the main aims of the project. Chepelare will be the municipality responsible for the execution of the project.

European funding will help the region turn into a popular tourism destination.
