The European Travel Commission presented a report about the state of tourism on the continent over the third quarter of 2009, tourismreview.com reported.
According to the report, the results are poor but the end of the financial crisis could be approaching.
The tourism sector on a global scale suffered heavy damage because of the financial crisis. The sector registered its poorest results since the 30s.
Europeans either lack the money to spend on travel or prefer to refrain from taking a vacation. The eurozone saw unemployment of 9.5 percent, which is expected to reach 10 percent in 2010.
Countries in central and Eastern Europe have suffered similar serious decrease. Overall, European destinations saw a seven to eight percent decrease in tourism revenue since the beginning of the year.
Despite the swine flu pandemics, the situation might improve in 2010. Hotels and transportation companies will slowly start recovering if media refrain from promoting the financial crisis craze.
