European Union plans to start a campaign for tourism development in the union in the period outside the active summer and winter seasons, euractiv.com reported. The project is similar to the Erasmus students program.
Young people, people aged over 65 and people with low income will receive financial resources to travel in the mentioned period. For example, people from Southern Europe will be able to have a vacation in North
European countries in the summer months and people from North European countries will travel to Southern Europe in the winter.
The project aims to stimulate tourists to travel year-round and to keep the available work places in tourism branch. EU data shows that the tourism industry provides five percent of the EU GDP and is responsible for 10 million workplaces.
