The project of architect Hristo Gerasimov involving the reconstruction of Pazardzhik’s clock tower from the 18th century has received approval, Focus news agency reported.
Gerasimov’s project has already been reviewed by the National Monuments of Culture Institute.
Execution of the renovation works will begin in 2008. The foundations and parts of the tower walls will be preserved.
Instead of the clock, Gerasimov plans to position statues of St. Konstantin and Elena on top of the tower. The two saints are considered patrons of the town of Pazardzhik.
The overall height of the tower will be 27 m. The original construction appeared in 1741. Only parts of the stone foundations have been preserved till present day.
