Camping sites in EU countries registered 354 million accommodations in 2008, Eurostat reported.
In 2008, France registered 98.8 million accommodations, Italy takes second place in the EU with 35.2 million and Great Britain has 61.4 million registered bookings. The three countries are responsible for 36 percent of the overall EU figure.
In 2008, camping sites registered 37 percent of all accommodations in EU. Luxembourg, Denmark and France are leaders in the number of nights spent in camping sites in comparison to other accommodation spots.
Foreign tourists were responsible for 30.4 percent of the camp site bookings. Luxembourg, Austria and Hungary registered over 50 percent visits of foreign tourists. In Great Britain camping sites had 6.8 percent visits by foreign tourists.
According to Eurostat data, in 2008 camping sites in Bulgaria registered 68 000 accommodations, which presents 0.4 percent of all bookings in the country’s accommodation spots.
