Tourism in Bulgaria registered 7.6 percent decrease in the number of visitors in the first five months of 2009, lev.bg reported. State Agency for Tourism (SAT) announced the figures.
Visits of tourists from European countries decreased 5.2 percent in comparison to data for the same period of 2008. Visits from the UK and Gemrany decreased on the average by 20 percent.
Tourists from Romania and Hungary increased with respectively 20 and 35 percent.
Revenue from international tourism by the end of May totals 556.3 million leva.
Bulgarians also limited their travels abroad. The decrease until May 2009 totals 14 percent. Those, who selected a vacation in Bulgaria, preferred destinations in the inner part of the country.
