UNESCO intends to verify the Pirin National Park which is list of world natural heritage and could be included in the List of World Heritage in Danger.
This was announced by Conservation Coalition "For the Nature in Bulgaria", which last week filed a claim in the European Commission and UNESCO for the detection of the ski zone above Bansko.
The decision for examination was taken by the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO. The main focus of the decision is the issue with the both lift in the "Banderishka poliana" and the "Platoto". If they turn to be a new construction, it will score Pirin in the list of endangered sites, reported environmentalists.
The list of endangered sites are included Bamiyan Valley in Afghanistan where the Taliban blew up ancient sculptures and Garamba National Park, Virunga and Okapi in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where civil war has led to deforestation.
In the decision of UNESCO is requested the Bulgarian government to assess the carrying capacity of the Pirin National Park, in order to prevent from increasing the infinite capacity of the Bansko ski area.
UNESCO insists the new management plan, which should enter into force in 2014, to prohibit new construction and all future projects and plans in the Pirin National Park to go in full impact assessment information to the disc environment.
