The European Commission sent Bulgaria four warnings concerning its failure to protect the country’s cultural heritage.
Warnings focus on the construction of a ski center in Pirin Mountain, the threat posed to a large protected area near Tsarevo, construction on the bank of Vaia River and violations in the protected region Emine-Irakli.
The four warnings are related to the lack of compatibility between European and Bulgarian legislation on nature protection.
Bulgarian authorities can respond within two months, otherwise the European Court of Justice will intervene.
