Bulgarian Deputy Economy, Energy and Tourism Minister Ivo Marinov presented year-round tourism opportunities in Bulgaria during London’s World Travel Market (WTM) expo.
The presentation took place on November 10 2009.
According to officially presented figures, the tourism sector contributes to 10.5 percent of Bulgaria’s gross domestic product (GDP). Nearly 4.95 million foreign tourists selected Bulgaria as their vacation destinations.
The biggest groups of foreign visitors came from Greece, Romania, Germany, Russia and the UK. Figures are based on preliminary calculations for the period from January to September 2009.
The presentation also focused on the trends and goals of the sector. Bulgaria will work on creating year-round tourism opportunities and on preserving and improving the quality of the tourism product.
Improvement of infrastructure and the application of unified European and international standards are two other goals Bulgaria will try to achieve.
Diversification of the tourism product will take place through the creation of good conditions for conventional, adventure, wine, culinary balneological and alternative tourism.
