A special scanning system will verify the authenticity of car vignettes. The new system will be initially used at Giueshevo border checkpoint between Bulgaria and Macedonia. From July 1, the system will come to use at Koulata border checkpoint.
The system aims to increase border control and to stimulate vignettes sales, Blagoevgrad regional governor Biser Mihailov said.
The new system was introduced after fake vignette signals were received. According to Mihailov, some drivers violate regulations by sharing one vignette.
Apart from inspections, border checkpoint staff will perform registrations of vehicle license plates and vignette numbers.
Vignettes are available for purchase at all border checkpoints, Mihailov said.
