There is a high possibility for Bulgaria to become a leading destination for SPA tourism, as it has been discussed between the Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Ivo Marinov and representatives of the General Union of the State Health Insurance Funds in Germany on the international tourist fair ITB Berlin. Bulgaria is the second country in Europe with the divergence of its 600 mineral springs.
German citizens can use the Bulgarian hotels for prophylactic and rehabilitation, as the German Health Insurance Funds pay 90% of the procedures’ price for its members staying in a SPA hotel. The requirement is the SPA hotels to hold a certificate as a Balneotherapy center.
Some of the German State Health Insurance Funds already supply its members with services on the European market – Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Austria and Israel because of The Dead Sea.
Bulgarian SPA hotels can be competing on this market because they posses the advantage of high quality on low prices.
