The National Tourism Chamber announced that Bulgaria has registered a decrease in the number of booked accommodations during the second quarter of 2010. The number of accommodations totaled 3.7 million, a decrease of 1.3 percent on an annual basis, Dnevnik daily reported.
Bulgaria’s fickle weather caused the changes. The number of accommodations decreased both in seaside resorts and resorts in other parts of the country.
Experts predict annual revenue of 6.5 billion leva, head of the tourism chamber Tsvetan Tonchev said. The value approximates the 2009 tourism revenue.
Foreign tourists generated income of about five billion leva. Seaside tourism is responsible for 70 percent of the overall amount.
Bulgaria’s Economy, Energy and Tourism Ministry predicts annual growth of five percent in 2010. Though the number of visitors will increase, revenue is to remain unchanged. The reason is promotional packages and price discounts that local resorts offer in 2010, Tonchev said.
