Bulgaria’s capital of Sofia may turn into a center for religious and cultural tourism, 24 Chasa daily reported.
Austrian consultants working with Sofia municipality on a new tourism strategy for the capital suggested this focus.

According to the consultants, Sofia can turn into a popular destination for young visitors from Europe. Social networks such as Facebook may help in achieving this goal.

If the city offers a diverse cultural program, its hotels will be fully booked both during weekends and week days. Sofia’s hotels make use of 12 000 beds, but bookings remain at approximately 30 percent of the overall accommodation capacity.

Austrian consultants suggested that Sofia could apply for membership in The Creative Cities Network of UNESCO.
