Bulgaria’s Zlatograd border checkpoint starts functioning
from 18.01.2010 11:33       Author - Tourist Media
Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borissov and his Greek counterpart George Papandreou opened the new Zlatograd-Xanthi border checkpoint during an official ceremony on January 15.

Zlatograd residents hope that the new checkpoint will help tourism development in the region. Greek tourists will be able to access easily the winter resort of Pamporovo and the Rhodope Mountain town of Smolyan.

The opening of the new checkpoint had to take place in 2008, but Greece delayed the process due to the lack of a functioning road.
