Over 300 people visit the Zemen Monastery each week, Zemen deputy mayor Dimitur Boyanov said as quoted by the Bulgarian news agency.
The monastery has been named a national monument of culture and falls under UNESCO protection.
Projects are to further popularize tourism in the region. A hotel will be constructed, as well as a 12-km eco path. The path will lead to Skakavishki waterfall. Another project involves the setting up of a biking alley.
