Bulgaria’s Pamporovo resort registered a 30 percent decrease in the number of tourist visits during summer season 2009, chairperson of Rhodope tourism association Pantalei Nemtsov told radio Focus-Smolyan.
The financial crisis is the main reason for the decrease in bookings. The number of foreign visitors dropped significantly.
Currently, only five hotels and as many restaurants are functioning in the mountain resort.
Pamporovo’s accommodation capacity is sufficient for 16 000 tourists but only 2500 beds have been booked so far.
