The bankruptcy of SkyEurope low-cost aviation company could be the beginning of a series of problematic development for various air carriers, econ.bg reported quoting Associated Press (AP).
Bratislava court ruled out that announcing bankruptcy was the only solution for the SkyEurope case. Experts believe that the case will not remain an isolated instance and other similar developments in the low-cost aviation sector will follow.
Even larger low-cost carriers like EasyJet and Ryanair have had serious financial problems.
According to experts, the winter tourism season will see exceptionally low traffic figures. International Air Transport Association (IATA) said that this is the worst crisis in the sector since five years.
The numbers of serviced passengers and transported goods has continued to decrease. In addition, low cost airlines can not rely on governmental aid in the conditions of financial crisis, AP’s report concluded.
