A Greek expert from AG Leventis foundation will travel to Bulgaria’s Nessebar to observe the conservation of churches St. Arhangeli Mihail and Gavrail and St. Paraskeva, BGNES news agency reported.
Several months ago, professor Haralambos Bakirtzis visited Nessebar to study the churches and their need of renovation. He now brought the foundation’s proposal to fund the restoration process.
At the same time, the archaeology summer season in Nessebar ended. This year, scientists explored the necropolis of Mesambria ancient settlement. The terrain was initially to be used for the construction of a new administrative building.
During the excavation works, archaeologists discovered 400 graves from various epochs. Many artifacts discovered will be displayed in Nessebar’s municipal building. Excavation works are to continue in the spring of 2009.
