Archeologists are starting excavation works at St. Cyricus island, 24 Chasa daily reported.
They are looking for a popular Apollo statue that is allegedly 13-m high. According to documents, Apollo was the god who gave his name to the city of Apollonia (present-day Sozopol).
The exploration area include the sea zone surrounding the island.
According to preliminary plans, some of the ancient buildings on the island are to be turned into tourism landmarks, including a luxurious casino and small hotels.
