Massive silver book casing was discovered during archaeological research of the St. St. Peter and Pavel church in Veliko Turnovo, radio Focus reported.
The casing dates back to the end of the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century.
Archaeologists believe that a large library used to exist in the church yard. According to some legends all of the books protected in this library were burned down.
Other legends state that the bishop at the time disliked the smell of the books and ordered all of them to be buried beneath the ground.
