Archaeologists in Bulgaria made a unique discovery proving the religious importance of Perperikon sanctuary, BGNES news agency reported. They found the relics of a saint and a lead seal.
According to archeologist findings are related to the establishment of Bachkovo Monastery. According to a theory, Christianity spread in the Rhodope region starting from Perperikon.
The name of the saint cannot be pointed out due to the poor state of the relics and the lack of inscription, archaeologist Nikolai Ovcharov said.
Another discovery involves two bronze crosses. One of them features the image of Jesus on one side and that of Virgin Mary on the other. It dates back to the 10th and 11th centuries.
The second cross dates back to the period from the 5th to the 7th century.
