A ceramic cup was discovered in one of infant ritual pits that archaeologists discovered near the Kazanluk region village of Krun, Bulgarian News Agency reported.
The cup was placed in a ceramic womb-shaped urn. The finding was made while British archeologist Kathleen McSweeney carried out her research alongside her Bulgarian colleagues.
Archaeologists believe that the rituals performed there are atypical for the southeast European region. Infants of age no more than one year were buried there. Thracians believed that the burial will lead to reincarnation.
The graves were created 4000 years ago. The discovery is unique for the regions of Bulgaria and Asia Minor, where infant graves were discovered.
