Nearly a quarter of the 200 Bulgarian beaches will remain without security and lifeguards this summer due to the lack of concessionaires, trud.bg reported.
Of these beaches, 40 are located south of Bourgas and 14 are located north of Varna.
The long-term concession contracts and high taxes are the reasons for numerous candidate-concessionaires to pull back.
Tsarevo’s mayor Petko Arnaoudov said that such beaches should be given for municipal management.
Experts said that changes to the system used for calculating concession taxes are needed.
