Archaeologists discovered an entirely preserved Thracian chariot in the mound near the Nova Zagora village of Karanovo, archaeologist Vesselin Ignatov told radio Focus.
The discovery was made based on a signal given one month ago. During that time, treasure hunters dug in the area and nearly reached the unique ancient discovery.
As we already reported, permanent guard over the archaeological site was provided after the incident. Archaeologists began urgent work, in order to finalize the excavation.
The chariot is amazingly well preserved. Wheel spoke marks can still be seen today. The chariot probably had four wheels and belonged to a wealthy Thracian. Its central part features bronze decoration. A dog skeleton was discovered near the chariot. According to archaeologists, it dates back to the 1st and 3rd centuries AD.
